Although there are several diets that have come and gone, very few diets have helped people to lost weight and help them keep it off indefinitely.

Since the introduction of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, low-carb diets are still a major topic of interest, with restaurants and food manufacturers changing some of their menus and developing some dedicated food categories to meet the needs for those following low carb diets and avoiding carbs in their diets.
Atkins Low Carb diet is one of the very popular diets that have helped people to lose weight. The most appealing aspect of the Atkins Low Carb diet, among other similar low carb diets, is that the foods you can eat are essentially the opposite of most other diets. With low carb diets, you eat a lot of protein and fats and very restricted carbohydrates.
In order to fully understand and appreciate the effectiveness of a diet, one needs to know the basic nutritional and medical principles upon which the diet is based, and how it works.

So, what are the basic nutritional principles of the Atkins low carb diet?

The Atkins diet is a high protein and fat and very low-carbohydrate routine. It put emphasis on meat, cheese, and eggs, while recommending reduction in consumption of foods such as bread, pasta, fruit, and sugar. The key advantage of the diet is rapid and substantial weight loss.

By limiting carbohydrate intake, the body will burn more fat stored in the body. Because there are no restrictions on the amount of calories or quantities of foods allowed on the diet, there is little hunger between meals. Uncontrollable hunger and food craving is the main cause of many dieting failures. It is in fact noted those who follow the Atkins low carb plan eventually find their effective individual range of carbohydrate intake, which is then considered as the tool that helps the dieters to maintain a healthy weight for the rest of their lives.

Low Carb Recipe - Low Carb Diet - What Are Low Carb Diets And How Effective Are They?

Low Carb Diet - What Are Low Carb Diets And How Effective Are They?
by Theresa Sontag

Low-carbohydrate diets for weight control have been very popular. Anyone who is considering losing weight has heard about low carb diets. Key questions you may have are: What are low carb diets? Are they safe? How do they work? Can low carb diets have any negative side effects to my health in the long term?
As the number of overweight and obese people has increased, calls to overweight people encouraging them to lose weight have also increased. As a result, there are more searches for diets that can help people lose weight and keep it off.

Today, more people who are overweight are engaging in the low carb dieting for their better health and vitality; and also to prolong their lives. It is noteworthy that low carb diets have also been followed by even those who are healthy and who are not overweight; they would like to maintain their well-being, energy, vitality and health by following the basics of the low carb diet.

The low carb diet has brought huge benefits to most people. There have been a lot of new diets introduced over the years, but the low carb diet is considered most effective in combating the true cause of obesity, high cholesterol, hypoglycemia, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Due to the fact that low carb diet have been very effective and have made significant contributions to the health and wellness industry, many doctors, nutritionists and food manufacturers are now starting to recognize the nature about the low carb diet, and are incorporating its principles in their practices.

There are various types of low carb diets. The key ones are the Protein Power, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, The Carbohydrates Addict’s Lifestyle Plan, Life without Bread, among others. All these diets are based on the same principle; namely reduction in the intake of carbohydrates.

Low carb diets recommend high consumption of protein and fat, while eliminating or reducing foods that contain sugar, grains and starches. With each of these products being labeled as carbohydrates, they are replaced with other foods containing increased fat and protein. The emphasis is on meat, cheese, and eggs, while reducing intake of carb foods such as bread and pasta, among others. Although the specific low carb recommendation for each individual differs, they are all based on this same principle. If you are on the low carb diet, it is recommended that you get at 60-70% of your normal calorie intake from fat, with the carbohydrates accounting for 5-10% of your daily calorie consumption.

With the low carb diets, you can eat until you are filled up, as long as you eat only those recommended foods. So basically as long as you are eating the low carb food such as meats, fish, poultry, and cheese; and avoiding carbohydrates, then you can still lose weight.
There is always controversy around all sorts of diets – do they work? what are the risks? A lot of medical and science experts have offered their views about the low carb diets. Some experts believe that low carb diets pose some risks and possible side effects in the long term; including headaches, fatigue, nausea, or dizziness. Lowering fiber intake can also cause constipation. Yet another school of thought argues that the replacement of cholesterol and foods high in saturated fat may increase the risk of developing heart disease.
Overall, the low carb diets have proved to help people to lose weight and keep it off, and live better lives.

Low Carb Recipe - Livin' Low Carb

Low Carb Recipe

George Stella's Livin' Low Carb is not the typical low carb diet book. The marinade is
good on the meat as well.
NOTES : Counts for salad dressing not included in totals.

Low Carb Recipe - Curry Shrimp

Low Carb Recipe
Curry Shrimp
CarbsPerServing:55 total recipe Effort:Easy
Ingredients:
2 large onions -- sliced 1 1/2 pounds shrimp
2 tablespoons olive oil salt and pepper -- to taste
2 tomatoes -- ripe, peeled, seeded and chopped
1 red bell pepper -- or yellow, chopped 1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander 1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon ground turmeric 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seed -- ground
ground red pepper -- to taste
How to Prepare:
This is very spicy, like curry you would get in London. And a diet to most people means 'stop eating'.

Wrong!

A healthy diet should consist of eating less of the foods that contain calories from simple carbohydrates (sugar and processed flour) and more whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and good sources of protein. This is the basis of a good low carb diet plan.

As a matter of fact, a good diet should have you eating more instead of less! Not more food, but more often.

The body's a wonderful mechanism. It's geared towards one important goal. Survival. When your body feels threatened by the lack of food it automatically assumes that you're starving.

To combat this condition the body will start breaking down muscle to use as energy and saves its fat stores for the last ditch effort to save itself from what it thinks is immanent death.

This is bad on two fronts."
Go to Low Calorie Recipe and Low-Fat-Recipes for more cooking, recipes and articles!

Low Carb Recipe - Curry Shrimp

Low Carb Recipe

Curry Shrimp
CarbsPerServing:55 total recipe Effort:Easy
Ingredients:
2 large onions -- sliced 1 1/2 pounds shrimp
2 tablespoons olive oil salt and pepper -- to taste
2 tomatoes -- ripe, peeled, seeded and chopped
1 red bell pepper -- or yellow, chopped 1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander 1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon ground turmeric 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seed -- ground
ground red pepper -- to taste
How to Prepare:
This is very spicy, like curry you would get in London. These exact same claims have been around as long as I can remember (and I'm not getting any younger!) It discusses healthy weight loss and the problems associated with it. It is a proven fact that most of us eat more than we think. That is why pre-packaged systems help us lose weight-it is easier to let someone else measure out our portions for us.

But Why Spend Your Money on Mass-Produced Diet Meals When You Can Make Your Own for Less? This is where "The Easy-Does It Diet" system steps in. After all - what is diet food, anyway? Isn't diet food just less food, with all the needed nutrients but without the extra calories? Do you really need to pay a company extra money for less food?

Do-it-yourself diet food. It just makes sense.

This cookbook gives you more than recipes - it gives you a complete system for creating your own diet meals in your kitchen. When you take your own frozen diet meals from your freezer you'll find a complete, delicious meal - not just the entree. Add a delicious salad and fruit for desert, or create a simple, healthy fruit smoothie (they show you how) and you have the makings for a wonderful meal. It won't taste like diet food - it will taste like your own home-cooking'.

I was really impressed with this book. It is easy, it is nutritious, it is flexible, it is self-regulating and more! Cajun spice will make it a
little milder.
NOTES : Counts for cajun spice and caesar dressing not included in totals.

Visit my other blogs at Low Calorie Recipe and Low-Fat-Recipes for more recipes!

Low Carb Recipe - Pecan Crusted Roughy

Low Carb Recipe

Pecan Crusted Roughy
Effort:Easy

Ingredients:
10 ounces orange roughy fillets -- or any mild fish - 2 fillets
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ground pecan mealMcCormack's Old Bay Style Seafood
seasoning

How to Prepare:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. What Does It Mean?

What is a Low Carb Diet? You'll do away with bad carbs and bad fats, and start eating good fats and good carbs. What you need to understand is that you are not really on a diet, but changing the way you eat. Eating the wrong foods consistently throws your body out of balance. Most of us tend to overdue it eating processed carbs. What do I mean by processed carbs? Basically, there are two kinds of carbohydrates, simple and complex. Some refer to them as bad and good carbs, fast and slow digestion carbs and others. Here are some basic explanations:

SIMPLE CARBS - Foods with simple or refined carbohydrates most often have a low nutrient content and a high-glycemic index. They are metabolized quickly (quick to digest). They enter the bloodstream and rapidly elevate blood sugar levels, then fall dramatically within a short span of time. In order to keep the body running healthy and stable, it is recommended that these type foods be limited. Examples of these simple or overprocessed carbs are white bread, potatoes, and sugary treats like cookies, candy, cupcakes and cakes, and beverages like cola products.

COMPLEX CARBS - Foods with complex carbohydrates contain many nutrients and have a low- to moderate-glycemic index. Higher fiber content in these foods means slower digestion, which is healthier for the body (including reducing mood swings and food cravings). And these foods are considered good choices by health advisors. Examples of these complex carbs are whole grains, most fruits and vegetables. Legumes, plants of the pea or bean family, are also in this category.

WHICH IS BEST?? Studies show that low-carb diets can help with weight loss; which means that the carbs need to be of the complex, low-glycemic type. The key is eating whole, real, unprocessed food found as close to nature as possible.

WHY DOES YOUR BODY NEED CARBOHYDRATES ANYWAY? Carbohydrates cause your body to produce a hormone called Insulin. Insulin is responsible for the movement of glucose (sugar) from the food you eat into the cells of your body to be used for energy. Excess glucose (that is not burned as energy) is then stored as body fat.

Years of consuming too many carbohydrates can lead to a sensitivity of the cells to Insulin. This can result in the body having to make more (and more) Insulin to get the same job done. Over time over-production of Insulin can lead to high cholesterol, heart disease, obesity and type II diabetes and more. A side effect of Insulin over-production is that it actually causes more fat to be deposited.

EATING LOW CARB WORKS WITH YOUR BODY.

All the food you consume provides energy for your body. Your body burns fuel in this order: carbohydrates / fat / protein. So, by limiting the carbohydrates you eat, it is perfectly natural for your body to burn fat next. Your body will go inward and start burning your own body fat for fuel. Because of this store of body fat, you wont feel hungry and you will maintain a more even blood sugar level throughout the day.

One important thing to note here is ... it is not eating too much fat that makes you over weight - it is eating far more carbohydrates than your body needs to use for energy.

Switch your body TODAY from a glucose burning metabolism to a FAT burning metabolism and use your body fat for energy instead of storing more fat! The best way is to plan your course of action, One of the best books I have come across is “Variety Plus” Low Carb Cookbook. It come with a low carb diet plan that is very helpful.
